Dal Dhokli is a traditional Gujarati dish. This recipe consists of spicy whole wheat uncooked roti pieces simmered into dal and cooked to perfection. Dal dhokli has a mild sweet and spicy flavor. Savory whole wheat noodles cooked in sweet, spicy and tangy lentil stew makes Daal Dhokli an ultimate comfort food!
Steps to make Dal Dhokli:
- Rinse the dal well. Heat the dal, with 1 cup water,1/4 tsp turmeric powder in pressure cooker on high flame for 2 whistle. Then turn the gas low and cook for 5 to 7 minutes.
- Then switch off the gas. Keep aside.
- Meanwhile take whole wheat flour in a mixing bowl. Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp red chilli powder, one tsp ajwain, pinch asafoetida, salt and and 2 tsp oil. Mix well.
- Add sufficient water and knead into stiff dough. cover the dough and rest for 10 minutes.
- Take a ball size dough. Roll it into slightly thick circle and cut it into diamond shapes or desired shape and size. Keep aside.
- Now open the lid of pressure cooker and smashed the dal well.
- Heat the oil in a kadhai on low flame. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, turmeric powder, green chilli and curry leaves and sauté.
- Further add goda masala, coriander seed powder, cumin seed powder, red chilli powder and 1 1/2 cup water. Mix well. You can add more or less water for desired consistency.
- Add jaggery, kokum petals and dal. Once dal comes to boil add Dhokli pieces and mix well.
- Cover and cook for 5 to 10 minutes till the dhokli cooked completely.
- Switch off the gas. Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves and serve.
