This recipe makes a sort of thick curry with the whole masoor dal, which can be had with rotis, parathas or even with rice. It is also called pink lentils (when skinned and split). Steps to make Whole Black Masoor Dal:
- Wash the Dal and soak for half an hour and pressure cook it till soft and keep aside.
- Now heat a large deep pan and put oil and ghee.
- When hot add the hing and mustard seeds, jeera and crushed chopped garlic and ginger,saute for a minute.
- Then add curry leaves, chopped green chilli,onion and fry till they leave the raw smell.
- Now add the dry masala powders,salt and fry then add chopped tomatoes,mix well and cook till soft.
- Now add the cooked masoor dal and sufficient water.Bring it to a boil.Check salt and spices add if required.
- Later garnish with chopped coriander leaves.Serve hot with Roti,Naan, Rice etc.
