Misal Pav is a vibrant meal consisting of a spicy sprouted bean curry topped with crunchy farsan, crisp red onions and fresh cilantro that is served with lightly buttered pav or dinner rolls. Misal pav is a traditional Indian dish originating from Maharashtra.
Steps to make Misal paav:
- For Misal : - - Rinse Moong sprouts well in water and drain completely. Keep aside. - In a pressure cooker, put these drained sprouts along with salt, turmeric powder and water. - Cook till 1-2 whistle over medium heat and keep aside.
- Next heat oil in a pan. - Add cumin seeds and allow to crackle.
- Next add finely chopped onion and saute till translucent. - Add ginger garlic paste and saute till raw smell goes off. - Then add turmeric powder, goda masala, salt, red chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and mix everything well.
- Add tomatoes and cook till they become mushy - Cook for 1-2 minutes till masala releases oil. - Now add tamarind pulp and the boiled sprouts.
- Give a nice mix and then add water (1-2 cup). - Allow to simmer for 10-12 minutes or until the desired consistency is reached.
- For serving - Cut the paav from the middle and butter them - Place paav on hot pan and let them be brown and crispy on low flame.
- Take misal in a bowl. Sprinkle some Farsan, chopped onions and coriander leaves for Garnish.
- Squeeze some lemon juice and serve with buttered paav
